Evonne “Vonnie” DeVinny
Hello!
I’m Evonne DeVinny, but you can call me Vonnie! Since relocating to Arbor Terrace, I’ve been thrilled with my decision. I’m originally from the delightful Akron, Iowa. I’ve explored various places, enjoying life in Los Angeles, Vermillion, Beloit, and Rochester. I pursued a degree in elementary education and have embraced many roles—teacher, full-time mom, fashion aficionado, and daycare expert! I taught 4th and 6th graders before transitioning to a stay-at-home caretaker role, later engaging in part-time work while my children navigated middle school. What an adventure it has been!
I was once married to Robert, an army veteran turned attorney. We exchanged vows in 1956 in Akron and shared three decades of experiences before going our separate ways in 1984. No need for a second act for me! We are blessed with five wonderful kids, most of whom live nearby, and one child in the cities. My heart fills with pride for my seven grandkids and seven great-grandkids!
Community involvement and political activities have always kept me engaged. During my leisure time, you can find me immersed in books, sewing, playing bridge, or enjoying a spirited game of bingo or dominoes. Mornings are my favorite—flipping on the TV to start the day—but I can become a bit moody when tired or reminiscing. Family and friends are my recipe for happiness!
At heart, I am a book lover, especially drawn to history and romance (I appreciate large print!). I enjoy classical and pop music, love attending concerts, and have a soft spot for little animals. I stay informed about the world through my trusty laptop and TV, and I’m passionate about voting and political engagement.
These days, I prefer cozy gatherings, trading sewing and knitting for bridge and Spinner Dominoes. You’ll often find me outdoors in the spring and fall, soaking in the beauty around me. As a Methodist, I enjoy watching services on TV. Nothing brings me more joy than the visits from family and friends!
“The measure of our happiness is the gift of ourselves that we give to others.”
Sincerely ~ Vonnie
